I Want a Gorgeous Body… What Are My Body Contouring Options?

body-contouring-portland-orA gorgeous summer body starts now. If you want to look your best in a bikini this summer, come in now and ask about body contouring. We can help you remove stubborn fat pockets, reshape and refine your body, and finally achieve the look you want. When a good diet and exercise isn’t enough, body contouring can make all the difference.

Let’s take a look at some of your body contouring options at the Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery.

CoolSculpting

For a better body shape without surgery, ask us about CoolSculpting. The Waldorf Center is one of the leading CoolSculpting providers in the Northwest and we offer complimentary consults with our clinical staff to explore if CoolSculpting is right for you. This revolutionary procedure uses cold to freeze fat cells. Over time your body eliminates these destroyed fat cells naturally and the result is fat loss. This procedure is ideal for targeting stubborn fat in specific areas. It is a great option for a tummy bulge, love handles, bra back fat, saddlebags, etc. Results start to appear about 3 weeks after treatment with continued improvement for up to 6 months. You should see good results by about 2 months after treatment.

CoolSculpting requires no downtime, no incisions, and no surgery.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat in the treatment areas. It is not a weight loss treatment, but rather a way to remove fat from specific problem areas. Patients often use liposuction to improve the appearance of the neck, chin, waist, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, ankles, etc. We offer a variety of liposuction treatments including traditional liposuction, ultrasonic assisted liposuction, and laser assisted liposuction. We can help you determine which procedure is the best for your situation.

Liposuction will require some downtime. Most patients take at least a week off from work (some need 2 weeks or more). You’ll need to avoid strenuous activities for 4-6 weeks. The benefit of liposuction is the ability to really shape and refine an area. Liposuction offers impressive, lasting results.

Surgical Lifting

Another option for body contouring is a surgical lift or tuck, like a breast lift, arm lift, tummy tuck, etc. These procedures don’t just remove fat; they also remove excess skin (and in some cases tighten the muscles). A lift or tuck may be needed after massive weight loss or pregnancy to fully restore the body’s shape. If you need a surgical lift, we can help you understand what to expect from the procedure and your recovery period.

What to Expect from Body Contouring

Body contouring is highly customized. The procedures selected for you will be determined by the specific needs of your body. For some patients one procedure on its own will provide sufficient results while others may need a combination of treatments. Some procedures can be performed together while others may need separate surgeries. The best way to learn about your body contouring options is to come in and have a consultation. We can examine your body, provide advice, and create a customized plan to achieve your best look. Call us today and discover your options! 503.646.0101

Winter Time Plastic Surgery: Which Procedures Are Best?

plastic-surgery-winterWinter is prime time for plastic surgery and laser treatments. The cooler weather and abundance of indoor time makes it easier to recover from many procedures. If you want to look amazing next summer, winter is the time prepare. This winter, Dr. Waldorf can make your plastic surgery dreams a reality. Here are some procedures that are perfectly suited to the chilly weather:

Facelift

For an easier recovery, opt for a wintertime facelift. After a facelift, Dr. Waldorf advises that patients stay out of the sun for a period of time. New scars are sensitive to the sun and may become permanently more visible if sun exposure is not initially limited. More time indoors during the winter is great for your post-facelift healing. Holiday downtime may also give you a few available weeks to finally make a facelift a reality. Think you don’t have time to recover? Pair your facelift recovery with a holiday break and you just might.

Laser Treatments

Many laser treatments (including laser hair removal and laser skin resurfacing) target hyperpigmentation. This means that tan skin is a no-no. Staying out of the sun is easier in the winter when we spend more time indoors. The Waldorf Center offers treatments like Fraxel to treat minor to severe skin damage, such as age or sun spots and fine lines and wrinkles. Laser hair removal helps to remove unwanted hair by targeting the pigment of the hair follicle. Typically 4-6 treatments are recommended for best results and The Waldorf Center offers packages to bring the cost down for you. Treat those brown spots, say goodbye to unwanted hair, and enjoy beautiful, smooth skin in time for spring! Call The Waldorf Center for more information on these treatments.

Liposuction- Slim Down While You Bundle Up

If you’ve been thinking about liposuction, winter is the perfect time. Bulky winter clothing makes it easier to keep your surgery discreet (if that’s important to you) since bruising, swelling, compression garments, etc. are easily hidden under layers and jackets. Ask Dr. Waldorf if you are a good candidate for liposuction and start making your New Year’s resolution a reality even before the New Year!

Winter is a great time to treat sun damage since patients tend to stay out of the sun more. To ensure that your results look great come summer too, get in the habit of using sun protection.

Which of these popular winter enhancements are right for you? Call the Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery today and book your appointment. Our doctors and providers are here to help you achieve your body transformation goals.  503-646-0101

What Is the Right Age for a Tummy Tuck?

tummy-tuck-portland-orDo you have a saggy tummy? Pregnancy and dramatic weight loss can leave the stomach area looking stretched out and saggy. What’s the solution? For many of our patients a tummy tuck is a way to restore a flatter, tighter, more attractive abdominal area. Are you ready for a tummy tuck? Call our offices and schedule your consultation with Dr. Waldorf! 503-646-0101

If you’re considering a tummy tuck, you may wonder if you’re ready for the procedure. What’s the right age for a tummy tuck? Should you wait? Here are a couple of factors to consider.

Are You at Your Ideal Weight?

A tummy tuck isn’t a weight loss treatment. Before your tummy tuck you should be close to your ideal weight. Some stubborn fat in the abdominal area is okay; a tummy tuck can remove this stubborn fat while tightening muscles and removing loose skin.

Are You Planning Future Pregnancies?

A tummy tuck is often part of a mommy makeover, a set of surgical treatments to restore the body after baby. It can be very effective in restoring a flatter, tighter stomach, but bear in mind that the changes will be reversed if you have another baby. Dr. Waldorf recommends waiting until you’ve finished bearing children to consider a tummy tuck.

If you are at or close to your ideal weight and are finished having children, a tummy tuck might be right for you. There is no one right age for a tummy tuck. More than age, the right time depends on your situation.

Taking the Next Step

If you are ready for a tummy tuck, call our offices at 503-646-0101 to schedule your consultation with Dr. Waldorf. During your consultation our doctors will examine your midsection, take your medical history, and offer recommendations. If a tummy tuck is the right choice, they can provide specifics about what the surgery will entail for you.

4 Essential Tips for Gorgeous Skin this Fall

Autumn is here and that means falling leaves, turkey, and (hopefully) gorgeous skin. To ensure that your skin looks its best all season long, try these helpful skin care tips. For personalized advice, call our offices and schedule an appointment.

fall-skin-care-tips-portland-orEvaluate Your Products

Is it time to switch up your skin care products? Often as the seasons change, so do our skin care needs. In the cooler, drier fall weather you may find that your skin is begging for additional moisture. Opt for a daily moisturizer (one with SPF is ideal) and use a hydrating mask when your skin feels dry. Toner, a must in the summer, isn’t always needed in the fall, especially if you have dry skin. If your skin is feeling itchy, dry, or irritated, swap your products.

It’s Sunscreen Time

Summer’s over, but it is still prime time for sunscreen. Sun protection should be a year round priority. Dr. Waldorf recommends using at least an SPF 15 each day, stronger if you’ll be in the sun. Protecting your skin from the sun is a must if you want to avoid premature aging, wrinkles, and sun damage. It is also an important step in protecting your skin from skin cancer.

Skip the Hot Showers

Hot showers are a terrible choice for your skin. The hot water melts the natural oils in the skin which are then washed down the drain. This can lead to dry skin, irritation, and redness. We aren’t saying you need cold showers all fall long, but rather than hot, opt for warm.

Get Those Pre-Holiday Treatments Now

If you want to look your best this Thanksgiving, now’s the time to come in for cosmetic treatments. Book now and enjoy the results from these treatments in time for the holidays.

  • Botox- Botox requires no downtime, but it can take several days before you see your final results. Come in for Botox now and enjoy smoother skin and fewer wrinkles by Thanksgiving.
  • Ultherapy- Lift and tighten your skin without surgery using Ultherapy. The results do take time to appear (full results are usually visible in 2-3 months) as the body builds more natural collagen.
  • Laser Resurfacing- If you’ve got uneven skin tone, rough texture, or wrinkling, ask us about fractional laser resurfacing. These treatments remove older, damaged cells and promote regeneration. You’ll see some changes immediately, but the full results can take a month or two to appear.

Enjoy gorgeous skin this fall with the Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery. Call us today and book your appointment with Dr. Waldorf.

Botox for Newbies: Your Botox Questions Answered

botox-for-newbiesHave you tried Botox? If you’re a Botox newbie, you likely have questions about this popular procedure. Call us today and schedule your complimentary consultation at The Waldorf Center. We’ve answered some common Botox questions below, but we’re always happy to provide personalized advice. Get in touch! 503-646-0101

Why Should I Try Botox?

If you have wrinkles cause by muscle activity, and most of us do, Botox might be right for you. Botox works well on the vertical “11” lines between the brows, crow’s feet, forehead creases, and other wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions. If you have these wrinkles, Botox can help you look younger and rejuvenated without surgery.

Is the Treatment Painful?

Many Botox newbies are worried that the treatment will be painful. You may experience a bit of discomfort from the needle, but know that the needle is ultrathin and the injections are over quickly. We can ice the treatment area in advance to increase your comfort. Topical anesthetic is rarely necessary.

Why Should I Choose Dr. Waldorf for My Botox Treatment?

We know that many providers offer Botox injections and we are grateful when patients trust us for their procedure. When you come to The Waldorf Center for Botox you can expect a thorough consultation. We’ll help you understand your options, address any concerns, and tell you what Botox can do for you. In some cases we may recommend that you try a different treatment that may be more effective. Ask us questions. We want you to be confident in your decision to have your Botox injections at the Waldorf Center.

What’s Botox Recovery Like?

After your Botox injections you can immediately resume your regular activities. You may have a bit of tenderness or mild bruising at the injection site. We ask that you avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area for at least 24 hours. You should see your results start to appear gradually in the first 2 weeks after treatment. They should last for about 3-4 months.

Can I Maintain My Botox Results?

If you love your new look after Botox, we can help you maintain it. We’ll create a treatment schedule for you so you can maintain your results. Typically you’ll need to receive injections every few months to keep up your look. Each treatment takes just a few minutes with no downtime.

Call the Waldorf Center today and schedule your first Botox treatment. Soon you’ll enjoy fewer wrinkles without surgery or downtime. 503-646-0101

I’m Considering a Breast Reduction… What Are the First Things I Should Know?

Do your breasts keep you from doing thingsI’m Considering a Breast Reduction… What Are the First Things I Should Know? that you love? Do your back and shoulders hurt from the extra weight? Are you limited in your clothing choices due to breast size? Breast reduction surgery can help you reclaim your life and love your body. Call us today and schedule a consultation with Dr. Waldorf.

If you’re considering breast reduction surgery, you probably have questions. This guide will address some of the most important things any patient preparing for breast reduction should know. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Breast Reduction Can Dramatically Increase Quality of Life

Women that receive breast reduction surgery are often very pleased with their results. Studies have found that breast reduction surgery can significantly improve quality of life and can alleviate many uncomfortable physical problems associated with overly large breasts, including back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and skin irritation. Additionally, breast reduction surgery can reduce the emotional discomfort and embarrassment that excessive breast tissue can bring.

Breast Reduction May Be Covered by Insurance

Breast reduction surgery may be covered by your insurance if certain conditions are met (and depending on your policy). If you’re struggling with the negative effects of large, heavy breasts, come see us. We can discuss your options and help you determine if the procedure might be covered by your insurance. Financing options may be available as well.

What Happens During Breast Reduction Surgery?

During a breast reduction surgery, Dr. Waldorf removes fatty and glandular tissue, as well as excess skin. She may also resize, reposition or reshape the areola. The end results of the surgery are typically a more lifted breast shape and position. Dr. Waldorf will work with you to create a surgical plan to achieve your ideal breast size and shape. Your results will be entirely customized that what you want to achieve.

What’s Recovery Like?

Some swelling, soreness, and discomfort is likely after breast reduction, but this can be managed with pain medication. Most patients miss 1-2 weeks from work and resume normal activities in about four weeks. Patients usually see the final results about six months after surgery once the breasts settle into their new position. Dr. Waldorf may ask you to wear a compression bra during healing to reduce swelling and promote an optimal recovery.

Back pain, discomfort, etc. are typically gone almost immediately after surgery.

If your overly large breasts are getting in the way of your life, come see Dr. Waldorf. Breast reduction can open up a new world of possibilities.
