Liposuction Portland OR
Liposuction is a body contouring technique that removes fat deposits from the chin, neck, abdomen, waist, back, arms, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. It can smooth these areas when there are disproportionate fat deposits, but is not an appropriate weight loss procedure.
We believe you need to be well-informed about the cosmetic procedure in which you are interested, including the pre- and post-operative expectations. At your initial consult, the physician will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. Feel free to bring in images of looks that you do or don’t like to help us understand your aesthetic tastes and goals. The surgeon will then examine you, and offer her opinion on how to achieve your goals, based on best practices.
Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to take time to question the physician and her team. We believe the formation of a personal bond is an integral part of the surgery and healing process.
Liposuction is performed through small incisions around the areas which are being treated. A saline solution with a local anesthetic and a medication to constrict the small blood vessels is injected into the surgical site. This separates the fat cells to make them easier to remove, reduces the blood loss and bruising, and helps with pain management post-operatively. A suction device is used to remove the unwanted fat cells.
Depending on the case, we also may use ultrasonic-assisted liposuction or laser-assisted lipolysis to aid in the removal of undesired fat deposits in certain areas of the body. These techniques utilize either an ultrasound device or a laser to assist in breaking up the fat cells, making them easier to remove and giving a smoother result.
Liposuction procedures usually take 1 to 2 hours of time, and may be performed using a variety of anesthesia options. This is generally an outpatient procedure, so you will likely go home the same day.
Recovery is relatively quick and most patients find they are able to resume a regular work or home schedule within 1-2 weeks. Compression garments are worn during the first several weeks to help control swelling and improve the final result. Most can return to strenuous activity levels in 4-6 weeks.
Liposuction, as with all surgical procedures, carries a certain amount of risk. It is important that you understand these risks, and the possible complications or adverse events associated with surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the surgical risks with you during your consultation and pre-operative appointments.
