Breast Augmentation Portland OR
Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures for women. They choose to get breast implants for a variety of reasons:
- To enhance the size or symmetry of the breasts and balance body proportion;
- To restore lost volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss;
- To restore shape to breasts affected by changes in skin elasticity (most often combined with a breast lift procedure)
An added benefit is often improved self-esteem and feeling more confident sexually.
The Waldorf Center’s staff is all-female, so we are sensitive to the specific needs and concerns of women. Dr. Waldorf has been in practice for more than 20 years, during which she has performed countless successful breast enhancement surgeries, helping women feel happier about their appearance. The result is a better proportioned figure and the ability to more easily find clothes that fit properly.
Breast Implant Choices
At our center, we use FDA-approved saline implants and silicone implants. The outer shell on all of the implants is made of a silicone polymer. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages that Dr. Waldorf will discuss with you during your consultation.
Many women don’t realize that they have more choices to make besides silicone and saline. Besides the size, the shape of the implant is also an important decision. There are rounder shapes that create a fuller cleavage and teardrop shapes that are closer to the breast’s natural shape.
There are two types of silicone gel implants – a round cohesive gel and a highly cohesive gel, which features the teardrop shape. Dr. Waldorf will discuss these with you and make a recommendation based on your anatomy and desired outcome. Your lifestyle also plays a role and will be taken into consideration in guiding you in the selection of which implant is best for you.
Your Breast Augmentation Consultation
We believe you need to be well-informed about your options, including the pre- and post-operative expectations of your breast augmentation. At your initial consult, Dr. Waldorf will meet with you to discuss your goals and concerns, and to determine what implants will fit your lifestyle. She will address the appearance of your breasts and how you would like to look after your surgery. Feel free to bring images of looks you both like and don’t like, which will help her understand your aesthetic tastes.
Your consultation will also include a Vectra 3D imaging system that enables you to view simulations of different breast sizes and shapes with your 3D picture. This technology allows you to envision how you will look after surgery and to further guide you in the decision-making process.
Dr. Waldorf will discuss the simulation pictures with you and offer her opinion as to how to achieve your goals based on your lifestyle and desired outcome.
If you feel that your breasts have also begun to sag, a breast lift may be indicated and can be performed along with your breast enhancement surgery.
We know that choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to take the time to ask questions of Dr. Waldorf and our team. We believe the formation of a personal bond is an integral part of a successful surgery and healing process.
Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
You will be under general anesthesia during your surgery, which will take 1-2 hours.
The implants might be placed in front of the pectoral muscle or under it. This decision will depend on your preferences, your anatomy, and Dr. Waldorf’s recommendation for your case.
Dr. Waldorf always does everything she can to keep scars as inconspicuous as possible, usually placing them under the crease of the breasts or around the lower part of the areola (the dark area around the nipple). The implant is carefully placed through the small incision, which is then sutured with absorbable stitches that do not have to be removed.
You can return home the same day, but you will be drowsy and need someone to take you home and stay with you for 24 hours.
Recovering from Breast Augmentation
Most women are able to return to work and other normal activities within a week. You will need to refrain from sports and strenuous exercise for 3-4 weeks.
You may be asked to wear a compression bandage or surgical bra for a period of time, and you can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild pain. You may take pain medication and use cold compresses to ease discomfort and swelling. You will also need to sleep on your back for a period of time.
Dr. Waldorf and our clinical staff will give you full post-op instructions and follow you closely after your surgery to make sure you are healing properly.
