VANCOUVER, SALEM, AND MORE OREGON WOMEN CAN REGAIN PRE-BABY CONTOURS
SEE RESULTS FROM A CIRCUMFERENTIAL ABDOMINOPLASTY
“Mommy Makeover” is a term for women who wish to rejuvenate their bodies after childbirth. Rather than one procedure, a Mommy Makeover at Portland’s Waldorf Center refers to a combination of procedures tailored to the needs and desires of the patient. Often, these procedures can be combined to lessen recovery time. It is best done when no further pregnancies are planned.
We have a special understanding of the needs of women, and our board-certified surgeons have performed numerous Mommy Makeovers. Our surgeons believe in a natural look, combining the eye of an artist with the technical skill of an experienced surgeon.
YOUR MOMMY MAKEOVER CONSULTATION
Mommy Makeover patients can expect to be thoroughly educated when it comes to the various elements involved in the procedure. This includes the processes of preparing for each procedure and the recovery periods after each. Mommy Makeover patients meet with Dr. Waldorf for an examination and discussion of surgery specifics, as well as to have any questions answered to their satisfaction so they are fully comfortable with their decision.

The best candidates for a Mommy Makeover are those who are in a good state of health, have reached a stable body weight where they wish to remain, and are finished having children. This is because pregnancy after the procedure could undo some of the effects by stretching out the skin, creating new sagging, and more.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MOMMY MAKEOVER
In preparation for a Mommy Makeover, patients may be asked to undergo a medical evaluation and adjust how they’re taking certain medications and supplements several weeks before the day of the operation. Avoid taking medications that make you more likely to bleed excessively such as blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelets) and anti-inflammatory drugs. Be sure to discuss any changes in taking medications with a primary caregiver. It’s also important to quit smoking before a Mommy Makeover, as tobacco use can increase the risk of complications and delay healing.
YOUR MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERIES
Below are the most common Mommy Makeover procedures:
Tummy Tuck
Also known as an abdominoplasty, this is one of the most popular Mommy Makeover cosmetic surgeries. During pregnancy, the skin stretches, and the “sit-up muscles” are forced apart to accommodate your growing baby. You may be left with a protruding belly and sagging skin that are challenging to address on your own with exercise alone.
Not only is excess skin and fat removed from the abdomen during this portion of a Mommy Makeover, but stretched-out muscles can be tightened as well. Liposuction may be used during the procedure for additional contouring. Read more about tummy tuck.
Liposuction
This is a procedure that removes localized pockets of fat that do not respond to diet or exercise. Women often gain as much as 40 pounds during a pregnancy. The “extra fat” may go to lower body areas like the hips, thighs, and butt, but it may be distributed in other ways, too. It’s also common to retain at least some of this excess weight.
Liposuction as part of a Mommy Makeover removes fat from isolated spots on almost any area of the body, including below the chin and on the upper arms, back, bra bulge area, abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, knees, and calves. The goal is to create more balanced, leaner contours to enhance the natural body shape. A suction device is used to remove the fat tissue through a small incision. Find out more about liposuction.
Your Mommy Makeover at Portland’s The Waldorf Center is customized to your personal needs and goals. The suite of procedures may include breast surgery (adding or reducing volume, repositioning), tummy tuck (addressing sagging, excess fat, and separated abdominal muscles), feminine rejuvenation (restoring vaginal tone and wellness), and liposuction (removing stubborn fat cells).
Breast Augmentation (Breast Implants)
During a Mommy Makeover, many women decide to increase their breast size for better body proportion and to replace volume that is lost after pregnancy and nursing. This procedure can be done concurrently with a breast lift to raise sagging breasts.
The breasts often become enlarged during pregnancy, but as a result, the skin and tissues may shrink or become flattened after breastfeeding. Implants are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures to restore your natural, pre-baby contours. Read more about breast augmentation.

Breast Lift
This is frequently performed during a Mommy Makeover to reshape and restore the breasts to their former higher position if you’re experiencing sagging. Find out more about breast lifts.
Breast Reduction
It’s normal for the breasts to look and feel different after pregnancy. Significant breast growth is possible as milk production begins and fat stores increase. Unfortunately, this added volume does not always go away. For some women, large breasts cause back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as difficulty in finding clothes that fit properly. Having large, pendulous breasts can also get in the way of various activities, especially intense exercise or sports. Read more about breast reduction used in a Mommy Makeover, which can correct this problem.
Vaginal Rejuvenation
Childbirth can sometimes stretch the labia, causing some women to wish to reduce them for both comfort and appearance. Find out more about labiaplasty. Birth and the natural aging process can also cause changes that can impact feminine wellness. Women facing these problems have a nonsurgical solution in ThermiVa®.
RECOVERING FROM A MOMMY MAKEOVER IN PORTLAND
Each individual procedure in a Mommy Makeover has its own recovery period. The recovery time will depend on the types of procedures chosen, but Mommy Makeover patients can typically expect around two weeks of healing time at home. Patients should also be ready to deal with some swelling for several weeks, and it will take some time before the full results are revealed.
It may be necessary to wear compression garments around the breasts and stomach to reduce swelling and discomfort while holding the skin and tissues in the correct position to optimize Mommy Makeover results. You’ll be given instructions on caring for incision sites, any concerns to look out for, and how to take medications. For around four to six weeks, any vigorous exercise or contact sport that involves heavy lifting, running, and twisting is discouraged.
In some cases, Dr. Waldorf might be able to combine Mommy Makeover surgeries in order to lessen your time spent in recovery.
