Schedule a ConsultationAge, sun exposure, hormones, genetics, or standing for long hours can all cause vascular malformations like spider veins on the legs. Depending on the size of the blood vessels, laser treatment or sclerotherapy can be used at the Portland Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery to collapse them.
Sclerotherapy is typically the treatment we use for spider vein treatment on the legs. Laser treatments can also be done to alleviate smaller veins so that you have the best possible result.* We have extensive experience with leg vein treatment, offering patients clearer skin so that they feel more comfortable wearing dresses, shorts, or swimsuits.
We believe you need to be well-informed about leg vein treatment so that you can make an informed decision about your procedure. This includes the results you can expect, the processes of preparing for the procedure, and the recovery period. We will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. We will examine you and tell you what we can accomplish for you. We will also advise you as to what the leg vein treatment will involve in terms specific to your case.
Choosing a clinician is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to ask questions of Dr. Waldorf and our team. We want you to feel comfortable with us and your decision to have leg vein treatment at The Waldorf Center.

Schedule a ConsultationSclerotherapy involves tiny injections of a sclerosing solution in the veins. The solution causes the veins to turn white, swell, and collapse with the aid of post-procedure compression stockings. The treated lining of the vein eventually adheres to itself, closes off, and heals. The body then reroutes the blood flow along healthy veins.
Most patients require multiple sclerotherapy treatments to eliminate as many veins as possible. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure we can perform in the office in 30 to 60 minutes. The injections are only mildly uncomfortable.
Laser treatments can be done in some cases in place of or after sclerotherapy to clear up smaller residual veins that were not eliminated by the sclerosing solution.
