HYDRAFACIAL
DEEP CLEAN, EXFOLIATE, AND HYDRATE YOUR SKIN AT OUR PORTLAND, OR PRACTICE
Your skin is regularly subjected to wear and tear due to a combination of aging, environmental stress, and irritants. Facials are a way of promoting healthier, cleaner, clearer, better hydrated, and softer skin. A HydraFacial from Portland, OR’s The Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery is a patented, three-in-one, hydrating and non-irritating skin treatment that is similar to a standard facial but works more effectively. This non-invasive procedure, which is sometimes also called hydradermabrasion, can target several types of skin imperfections and conditions to create a silky surface and healthy glow. A HydraFacial can treat a wide range of concerns such as wrinkles, oily and congested skin, enlarged pores, pigmentation, and more.

WHAT IS HYDRAFACIAL?
A HydraFacial is a rejuvenating treatment that involves a combination of cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, and adding nourishing serums into the skin. HydraFacial gives you more dramatic results compared to a normal facial. It’s similar to microdermabrasion, but also automatically includes potent serums that are applied to make the skin more radiant. These formulas, enriched in active ingredients, target and treat specific skin imperfections or conditions.
What sets it apart from many other intense facials is that there is no downtime, and it is painless. As a HydraFacial is performed with a device rather than by hand, there is deeper penetration of the active ingredients, ensuring that it is as effective as possible, and provides longer-lasting results. Another major benefit of HydraFacial is that it is completely customizable and can be personalized to provide optimal results. The suction power can be adjusted and various types of acids can be used. The skin boosters are mixed individually based on each patient’s specific skin concerns. Each custom blend can provide benefits such as brightening, firming, restoring, smoothing and refining, hydrating, calming, and clarifying.

WHAT CAN A HYDRAFACIAL TREAT?
A HydraFacial addresses individual skin concerns and provides a renewed radiance. Some of the skin irregularities and conditions that can be treated with HydraFacial in one session include acne, dryness, rosacea, melasma, minor skin discolorations, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. Patients who have more severe skin imperfections or scarring may benefit more from a different option. Specific treatment serums can be chosen, and the HydraFacial can be customized for your unique skin conditions.
In addition to the face, a HydraFacial can be applied to almost anywhere on the body. The back, arms, hands, neck, décolletage, thighs, and buttocks are some of the most popular areas. It can also treat the delicate skin around the eyes and provide hydration and plumpness to the lips.
WHAT IS THE HYDRAFACIAL PROCEDURE LIKE?
The three-stage treatment begins with polishing the outer surface, which is called the stratum corneum, with a device that has an exfoliating tip. The skin is cleansed, and a peel that contains a mixture of salicylic and glycolic acid may also be applied to exfoliate and resurface the outer part of the skin to loosen blockages from pores.
A painless, vortex-powered wand uses vacuum suction to extract the dirt, impurities, exfoliated skin, blackheads, and oil that can build up deep in the pores. HydraFacials often feel very relaxing and comfortable. Many patients even consider the pore-to-pore suctioning to be calming and satisfying. The vacuum extractions won’t hurt and do not leave your skin appearing red or inflamed. Some patients like that they can see that the treatment is working while they have it because they can actually see the dead skin cells, dirt, debris, and oil being visibly extracted from their pores.
Finally, customized blends of potent serums or “boosters” containing active ingredients are delivered into the skin. Serums are customized for a patient’s specific skin concerns.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A HYDRAFACIAL?
Patients who have fine lines, wrinkles, minor skin discolorations, acne, and melasma may be good candidates for a HydraFacial. This treatment has universal appeal and is customizable – it can be safely used on people of all skin tones, skin types, ages, and genders. Just about anyone who is hoping to refresh their skin could benefit from a HydraFacial. Due to the mixture of salicylic and glycolic acids and the suction extraction system, it is particularly well-suited for patients who are prone to breakouts. Additional maintenance treatments may be recommended to help keep acne under control.
A HydraFacial may not be suitable for patients who are taking Accutane. You should also avoid this treatment if you have an active rash, are sunburned, or have especially irritable or sensitive skin due to using certain topical ingredients. However, in most cases, a HydraFacial is easily tolerated by even the most sensitive skin types. Tell us if you have had any recent injectables or laser treatments or have other active skin concerns.
YOUR HYDRAFACIAL CONSULTATION
Before having a HydraFacial, as with any other type of skin treatment, it’s best for patients to learn as much as they can about what to expect from the procedure. You can start by scheduling a consultation with the team at The Waldorf Center. During the consultation, we will discuss your medical history with you and tell you more about what happens during the procedure itself. During this time, you can ask any questions you might have about the HydraFacial process. You will also learn more about the other skin resurfacing procedures offered at our practice.
PREPARATION FOR A HYDRAFACIAL
You won’t need to make any significant changes to your skincare routine prior to a HydraFacial. However, we may recommend that you stop using any products that contain retinol in the days leading up to your treatment to reduce the chance of skin irritation. You may also need to avoid exfoliating treatments, harsh skin products, and harsh sun exposure for several days before your HydraFacial. Avoid resurfacing treatments for one month before a HydraFacial.
RECOVERY AND RESULTS FROM A HYDRAFACIAL

A typical session is completed in less than an hour, and there is no downtime needed after. Patients can return to their usual activities right away. You will also see results after just one treatment. Patients may notice that their skin appears smoother, more even, and younger-looking, in addition to having a renewed glow right after a HydraFacial session, boosting their confidence.
Patients won’t usually experience irritation, redness, or peeling, but it’s best not to have exfoliating treatments for several days after a session. Some patients do experience some minor redness and tightness for a few hours after the treatment, both of which resolve quickly. It’s best to avoid heavy exercise and makeup used for the first 24 hours. We will provide any necessary instructions for aftercare to maximize your results while minimizing side effects. Use a gentle face wash, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Patients will notice continual improvements over a series of treatments and can have additional treatments every five to seven months to maintain results.
ALTERNATIVE OR COMPLEMENTARY OPTIONS TO A HYDRAFACIAL
HydraFacial is one option for skin rejuvenation, and The Waldorf Center also provides other alternatives including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, DermaFrac® microneedling, and other specialty facials to enhance the appearance and health of the skin. HydraFacial combines well with many other cosmetic treatments.
During a peel, a solution is applied to remove the dead skin and dirt from the outer layer where the damage has occurred so that the newer, brighter skin can be revealed at the surface. Exfoliation treatments also encourage collagen production and skin cell turnover.
Dermal fillers are another option for temporarily increasing the skin’s volume and reducing wrinkles. Sometimes patients might have dermal fillers or laser treatments as add-ons after a HydraFacial—but they are not part of the facial itself. The spa also provides a line of skin care products to boost the effects of facials and provide other nourishing and hydrating benefits.
