Breast Revision Surgery
Occasionally, a condition arises after breast augmentation that requires breast revision surgery. These conditions include capsular contracture, implant malposition, implant deflation, implant rupture, or simply a desire to change the size of the breast implants.
If you wish to replace your implants with a smaller size or remove the implants entirely, a breast lift procedure may be necessary to reshape the surrounding tissue and skin.
At Waldorf Center, we have an all-female staff that is especially sensitive to the needs and concerns of women. Dr. Waldorf has more than 20 years of experience and is an expert breast surgeon. She has performed numerous successful breast revision procedures.
Your Breast Revision Surgery Consultation
We believe you need to be well-informed about breast revision surgery so that you can make an informed decision about your procedure and your surgeon. This includes the results you can expect, the processes of preparing for the surgery, and the recovery period. Dr. Waldorf will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. She will examine you and tell you what she can accomplish for you. She will also advise you what the breast revision surgery will involve in terms specific to your case.
Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to ask questions of Dr. Waldorf and our team. We want you to feel comfortable with us and your decision to have surgery at Waldorf Center.
Your Breast Revision Surgery
Capsular contracture is a condition in which scar tissue forms tightly around the breast implant. An open capsulotomy treats this scarring or revises the shape of the pocket that holds the implant. This usually involves surgical removal of the scar tissue and, often, the placement of a new implant.
Other conditions are treated on a highly individualized basis. Dr. Waldorf will evaluate your case carefully and devise a surgical plan specific to your needs.
A breast revision procedure usually takes 1-2 hours and is performed using general anesthesia. After recovery from the anesthesia, you can return home to be cared for by family or friends.
Recovering from Breast Revision Surgery
Most patients take 1-2 weeks off from work after breast revision surgery. Strenuous activity can be resumed in 4-6 weeks.
There is some swelling, bruising, tenderness, and discomfort to be expected, but you can manage these symptoms with pain medication. You may be fitted with a compression bra to wear for a few weeks to promote healing and reduce swelling.
Dr. Waldorf will provide you with full post-operative instructions, and the bandages will be removed during one of your follow-up visits, during which we will monitor your progress.
