Post Weight Loss
Post-Weight Loss surgeries are usually performed after massive weight loss, often following bariatric surgery, which is also sometimes called gastric bypass, gastric band, or gastric sleeve surgery. Massive weight loss often leaves the patient with large amounts of loose, saggy skin. This can be disheartening for the patient who has worked hard to lose weight and regain good health.
Rather than one procedure, post-weight loss surgeries are often a series of procedures performed over several months. They are chosen specifically based on your body and are customized to meet the needs and desires of each individual. These body contouring procedures do exactly that – contour and reshape the body for a firmer appearance.
Your Post-Weight Loss Consultation
We believe you need to be well-informed about post-weight loss surgeries so that you can make an informed decision about each surgery and your surgeon. This includes the processes of preparing for the procedures and the recovery period for each. Your surgeon will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. They will examine you and tell you what they can accomplish for you. Your surgeon will also advise you what the surgeries will involve in terms specific to your case.
Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to ask questions of our team. We want you to feel comfortable with us and your decision to have surgery at Waldorf Center.
Dear Dr. Waldorf,-58-year-old female patient, Procedure: Breast Reduction, Upper Arm (Brachioplasty), and Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Dr. Waldorf and Staff, I want you all to know how grateful I am for your wonderful care and expertise. I really have a trust and confidence in all of you. It’s exciting and life changing in so many ways to go through this awesome transformation. I’ve watched SO MANY plastic surgery shows over the years and secretly hoped and dreamed for this, but never really believed I would lose enough weight or have this opportunity to reverse some of the damage that I’ve done to my body. For this journey, I thank God for my personal trainer who helped me believe in myself, for leading me to Drs. and Nurses with the talents and skills to help me fulfill my dreams, and of course for home equity and a supportive husband. From My Heart, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Your Post-Weight Loss Surgeries
Below are the most common surgeries after weight loss:
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
A tummy tuck is performed on most post-weight loss patients. Not only is excess skin and fat removed from the abdomen, but stretched abdominal muscles can be tightened as well. Liposuction may be used during the procedure for the removal of any remaining fatty tissue. Read more about tummy tuck.
Liposuction is a procedure that removes remaining localized pockets of fat. A suction device is used to remove the fat tissue through a small incision. It may be performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift. Find out more about liposuction.
A breast lift is frequently performed on women after weight loss to restore the shape and position of the breasts. Find out more about breast lift.
Male Breast Reduction
Many men who have had bariatric surgery have a condition called gynecomastia or male breast enlargement. Male breast reduction is a procedure to restore a flat, masculine appearance to the chest. Read more about male breast reduction.
Lower Body Lift
Sometimes called a belt lipectomy or a circumferential abdominoplasty, this procedure removes sagging tissue around the torso and tightens the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. Find out more about lower body lift.
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
If you have sagging skin on the upper arms after weight loss, this procedure removes that tissue, tightening the arms. Read more about arm lift.
Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)
A thigh lift removes excess skin and fat from the inner and outer thighs for a more toned appearance. Find out more about thigh lift.
Recovering from Post-Weight Loss Surgeries
Each individual procedure has its own recovery period. In some cases, your surgeon might be able to combine surgeries in order to lessen your time in recovery.
