EMSELLA® Incontinence Treatment

Strengthen the Pelvic Floor at
Portland's Waldorf Center

Non Surgical
Model

Good bladder control depends on a strong pelvic floor. Unfortunately, there are many factors that can weaken the muscles there, including pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and aging. As hormone levels shift and pelvic tissues weaken, the bladder is increasingly unable to function properly, leading to incidents of incontinence that can be triggered by jogging, sneezing, and even laughing. Dr. Kathleen Waldorf and Dr. Rachel Streu understand that this can be a remarkably frustrating situation for women, which is why they've added the EMSELLA® incontinence treatment to the Portland-based practice.

EMSELLA® is an entirely noninvasive treatment that makes use of high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology to strengthen the muscles in the pelvic floor, leading to improved bladder control.

The EMSELLA® Procedure

The EMSELLA® device is a seat known as the "Kegel throne," named after exercises designed to strengthen muscles in the pelvic area. The seat delivers high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy into the targeted muscles, passing harmlessly through skin and fabric—which means you can leave your clothes on.

The energy causes the muscles to repeatedly contract and relax—about 11,000 times over the course of 28 minutes. This "supramaximal contractions" should be repeated twice a week for three weeks to get the ideal full benefit.

The contractions build muscle tissue for a stronger pelvic floor that better supports the bladder. Effects may be noticeable after a single session, but the full treatment plan should be followed, with increasingly improved muscle function developing in the weeks after. There is no need for any special recuperation or recovery as an EMSELLA® session involves no incisions or sutures.
