Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that contours the tummy and waistline by the removal of excess fat and skin. This is not a weight loss procedure but is best for people who are very near their ideal weight with stubborn fat that does not respond to diet or exercise. A tummy tuck is often performed on patients after bariatric surgery or as part of a Mommy Makeover.

Dr. Waldorf has been in practice for more than 20 years, and she has performed many successful tummy tucks for her patients of both sexes and varying ages.

Your Tummy Tuck Consultation

We believe you need to be well-informed about abdominoplasty so that you can make an informed decision about your procedure and your surgeon. This includes the processes of preparing for the surgery and the recovery period. Dr. Waldorf will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. She will examine your midsection, take your medical history and stats, and tell you what she can accomplish for you. She will also advise you what the tummy tuck will involve in terms specific to your case.

Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to ask questions of Dr. Waldorf and our team. We want you to feel comfortable with us and your decision to have surgery at Waldorf Center.

Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

In a tummy tuck, the incision is generally low on the abdomen where the scar will stay hidden under most bikinis and underwear. Excess skin and fat may be trimmed, and stretched abdominal muscles are tightened, if necessary. Liposuction may be used to remove any excess fat from the area. The result is a flatter, firmer, smoother tummy and trimmer waistline.

The surgery takes 1-2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Most often, our patients spend 1 night recovering in our accredited surgery center.

Recovering from Abdominoplasty

Recovery is relatively quick, and most patients find they are able to resume a regular work or home schedule after 2 weeks. Most can return to strenuous activity levels in 6 weeks.

The recovery period involves some bruising, soreness, and swelling. You may also find it hard to walk completely straight for the first few days. You can take pain medication to manage any discomfort. Some mild residual swelling will remain for a few weeks to months.

In some cases, drains are placed at the time of surgery to collect excess fluid as you heal, and you may be instructed to wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks. If drains are used, they will be removed, along with your sutures, during a post-operative visit with Dr. Waldorf.
