Reconstruction

Reconstructive surgery is the main term for many different procedures to help restore the form and function of the body. While many are for functional purposes, more individuals choose this type of procedure to regain an aesthetic appearance that was lost either from an accident, surgery or from birth. At the Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery, our surgeons specialize in breast reconstruction, cleft lip and lip palate repair, pediatric plastic surgery, and skin cancer reconstruction.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast cancer is cancer originating from the breast tissue, and according to the National Cancer Institute SEER statistics comprises 12.3% of cancer occurrences among women. Although breast cancer is much more common in women than men, males can become affected with breast cancer, as well. After a mastectomy, patients often make the decision to undergo reconstruction of their breast or breasts to improve self-esteem and confidence. At the Waldorf Center, we utilize a number of surgical techniques to create an aesthetically pleasing breast after mastectomy.

Cleft Lip & Cleft Palate

Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common craniofacial birth defects. The CDC estimates that 7,000 babies are born each year with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. Cleft lip and cleft palate are relatively common congenital defects that can be corrected. A cleft is an opening or fissure that forms before birth, and can be successfully treated with surgery in early childhood and with additional procedures as your child grows. Cleft palate and lip repairs are medically necessary – the palate is the structure that allows us to communicate clearly!

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States with more than two million people diagnosed annually. If you’ve been diagnosed with skin cancer, the Waldorf Center frequently helps with the removal and/or reconstruction after the removal of a skin malignancy. Together a dermatologist and a plastic surgeon work to remove the tumor and reconstruct the area – improving the result of cancer removal as well as attaining a better aesthetic appearance. If you have not been diagnosed, and are concerned with a skin lesion, we’ll be happy to evaluate the area.
