Triple-Action Creams for Melasma
Melasma is a hyperpigmentation disorder of the skin and appears as dark spots or blotches on the face, forehead and neck. It is the result of excess melanin being deposited in the dermal or epidermal layers of the skin. The cause is an imbalance of hormones due to a recent pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy. Also known as the “mask of pregnancy,” melasma occurs in 50%-70% of pregnant women and 5%-34% of women taking birth control pills.
Triple-action creams are formulated for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe melasma of the face. Visible proof is seen in as little as 4 weeks, with maximum results seen in 8 weeks. These convenient, well-tolerated creams are applied nightly before bed. Ask your clinician about the right triple-action cream formulation for your melasma.
Retinoids for Comedonal Acne and Skin Rejuvenation
Retinoids are Vitamin A derivatives that increase skin cell turnover, and have the potential of reversing sun damage and other age-related changes in the skin. They are also used in the treatment of whiteheads and blackheads or comedonal acne. Tretinoin is a prescription form of topical Vitamin A. Retinol is a nonprescription form. Some retinol-containing products are more active than others. Some retinoid imitators are found in over the counter products and cosmetics and may not be effective in skin rejuvenation.
With all the products available, it is best to consult with your doctor and skin specialist on product choices. When retinoids are used consistently and appropriately, maximum improvement can be obtained with most skin types.
Each prescription strength is available in cream or gel. Retinoids can be used in conjunction with most skin care programs. Physician consultation is required prior to dispensing. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
