BOTOX® Cosmetic

Some wrinkles in our face are caused by the repeated contraction of our facial muscles. The vertical lines between the eyebrows, for example, form after the glabellum muscles have repeatedly contracted, and caused the skin to furrow and wrinkle. These wrinkles are readily addressed by BOTOX® Cosmetic.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a medication that causes a temporary paralysis of the specific muscle into which it is injected. The effect usually takes 5 to 7 days to reach its full effect and patients often seek re-treatment after 3 to 10 months.

The most common areas treated are the muscles between the eyebrows, the crow’s feet (laugh lines around the eyes), and the forehead. Other muscles in the face are sometimes treated for specific reasons, such as creases around the mouth or depressed corners of the mouth, but these are less common. In some patients the vertical bands in the neck can also be treated.

I am so pleased with BOTOX®. My frown lines are a thing of the past! The Waldorf Center staff treated me with gentle hands and answered all my questions! I was very nervous about trying BOTOX® but the experience was relaxing and the staff handled my anxiety with gentle hands. Thank you!
Patient: 40-year old woman

The Treatment

The treatment involves injecting a small amount of BOTOX® into the muscle that is creating the unwanted wrinkles. There is some mild discomfort during the injection which resolves within seconds.

Recovery

Rarely there is some mild bruising. You should not rub or massage the site where you have received BOTOX® for 24 hours. Generally speaking, this is a very safe, non-operative method to create a more youthful look to the face.
