Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Some people are unhappy with the shape or size of their nose. Others have difficulty breathing due to a structural issue within their nose. Rhinoplasty from the Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip, narrow the width of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip. This operation can also help correct birth defects and nasal injuries. Rhinoplasty surgery is customized for each patient, depending on his or her needs.
Your Consultation
We believe you need to be well-informed about the cosmetic procedure in which you are interested, including the pre- and post- operative expectations. At your initial consult, the physician will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. Feel free to bring in images of looks that you do or don’t like to help us understand your aesthetic tastes and goals. The surgeon will then examine you, and offer her opinion on how to achieve your goals, based on best practices.
Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to take time to question the physician and her team. We believe the formation of a personal bond is an integral part of the surgery and healing process.
The Surgery
As noted above, rhinoplasty surgery is customized for each patient. With incisions just inside the nostrils and at the bottom of the nose, the bone and cartilage of the nose can be accessed and restructured. The scar is well hidden.
The procedure takes 1-2 hours, and is performed with general anesthesia. You will either go home the same day or stay overnight in the hospital depending on your individual needs.
Recovery
After surgery one can expect some swelling and bruising around the eyes, which usually resolves in 10-12 days. Often, the patient is able to resume a regular work or home schedule within 1-2 weeks. In general, you can plan to return to strenuous activity after 4-6 weeks.
Risks
Nose surgery, as with all surgical procedures, carries a certain amount of risk. It is important that you understand these risks, and the possible complications or adverse events, associated with them. Your surgeon will discuss any risks with you during your consultation and pre-operative appointments.
