Lip Augmentation

Full, sensual lips have long been considered an aesthetic ideal. Youthful lips are full and without surrounding wrinkles or creases. As we age, volume is lost in the lips, and often lipstick bleeds into the small wrinkles that develop around the mouth.

Lip fullness can be restored for those who have lost volume, or created, for those with naturally thin lips. Temporary injectable fillers are the most common method of creating lip fullness. The lips retain fullness for approximately 6 months.

Laser resurfacing is also a procedure that can address deeper lip lines and wrinkles. This treatment can further rejuvenate the area surrounding the mouth.

The Procedure

After a discussion with one of our well-trained clinical injectors (physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse), the appropriate type of injectable filler is determined and the procedure is performed in the office. Typically a topical anesthetic is applied and sometimes a regional block is performed to make the injection process as comfortable as possible.

Recovery

After the procedure, the results can be seen immediately. There is typically some additional fullness due to mild swelling that resolves over the following 2-3 days. Some people also see some bruising to the area, which typically disappears over the following week.
