Prominent Ears (Otoplasty)

Some people are born with prominent ears. Usually the ear is the right size proportionally, but does not sit back far enough, which makes it more visible from the front and back. People with prominent ears are often very self-conscious about their ears, and having them reshaped can truly improve self-esteem and confidence.

In these cases, an incision can be made behind the ear, and the cartilage can be reshaped to help the ears sit closer to the head.

After this procedure, the patient must wear a head dressing for a week, and then must protect his or her ears for six weeks. The patient should be at least five years of age.
