Lower Body Lift
It is very common for people to have excess skin on their abdomen, outer thighs and buttocks after losing a significant amount of weight. This can be very frustrating after working so hard to lose the weight in the first place. A circumferential abdominoplasty allows a plastic surgeon to remove the excess skin all the way around the trunk to create a smoother abdominal shape. It also lifts the buttocks to their appropriate location and smoothes the upper outer thighs.
Your Consultation
We believe you need to be well-informed about the cosmetic procedure in which you are interested, including the pre- and post-operative expectations. At your initial consult, the physician will meet with you about your concerns and personal goals. Feel free to bring in images of looks that you do or don’t like to help us understand your aesthetic tastes and goals. The surgeon will then examine you, and offer her opinion on how to achieve your goals, based on best practices.
Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to take time to question the physician and her team. We believe the formation of a personal bond is an integral part of the surgery and healing process.
The Surgery
This procedure creates a scar that travels around the lower abdomen and just above the buttocks. It can generally be hidden without difficulty under clothing and many swimsuits. Through this incision, a qualified surgeon can tighten the abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin and fat around your trunk to help smooth out and refine a person’s figure.
The surgery takes 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Most often, our patients will spend 1 night recovering at the hospital.
Recovery
After a circumferential abdominoplasty a person should plan to relax for ten to fourteen days before easing back into his or her normal routine. Most can return to strenuous activity levels in 4-6 weeks.
Risks
A lower body lift, as with all surgical procedures, carries a certain amount of risk. It is important that you understand these risks, and the possible complications or adverse events associated with surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the surgical risks with you during your consultation and pre-operative appointments.
